My brother-in-law was recently injured while he was working. He wants to file for workers compensation, so he's decided to hire a workers compensation lawyer to help him file his claim. I'm trying to help him by doing all of the research I can.

I had no idea that on the job injuries were so common. I would have never guessed that people would be injured so frequently at work. That's why I think it's so important to have a personal injury attorney on hand. Although I've never been injured, I would feel much safer knowing I have an attorney there just in case. I'll have to look for one soon! http://nyworkerscompattorney.com/contact/brooklyn-workers-compensation-lawyer/
I think that it is indeed very important for the lawyer to be able to understand and empathize with the victim. With that understanding they are better able to argue from your perspective in front of the judge. When looking for a good lawyer, you should make sure that they understand your perspective, and that they are given all of the facts. http://www.ootandassociates.com/blog/29.html
